ShuffleSort Support
Help and support for ShuffleSort: Photo Randomizer — a private photo shuffling and renaming app.
What ShuffleSort does: ShuffleSort lets you select photos, randomize their order, rename exported copies with numbered filenames, and export the result as a ZIP file.
Your original photos are not changed. Photos are processed locally on your device and are not uploaded to a server.
How to Use ShuffleSort
- Select Photos: Choose the photos you want to shuffle and rename.
- Adjust Naming Settings: Set the starting number, number padding, separator, and whether original filenames should be kept.
- Preview: Review the original filenames and the new shuffled filenames before exporting.
- Export: Tap Download ZIP to export renamed copies of your shuffled photos.
- Save or Share: On iPhone, iPad, and Mac, use the Apple share sheet to save, AirDrop, message, or share the ZIP file.
ShuffleSort exports renamed copies only. It does not edit, delete, or rename the original photos in your Photos library or folders.
Buttons and Settings
Select Photos
Starts a new ShuffleSort project by selecting photos from your device. After selecting photos, ShuffleSort randomizes their order and creates a preview of the new filenames.
Download ZIP
Exports the shuffled and renamed photo copies into a single ZIP file. This makes it easy to save, share, AirDrop, or move the shuffled photo collection as one file.
Add Photos
Adds more photos to the current project without changing the order of the photos already in the list. The newly added photos are shuffled among themselves, then added to the end of the current deck.
Add & Shuffle
Adds more photos and reshuffles the entire deck, including both the photos already in the project and the new photos being added.
Shuffle Again
Randomizes the current photo order again without adding or removing photos.
Reset
Clears the current project so you can start over with a new group of photos.
Starting Number
Controls the first number used in exported filenames. For example, a starting number of 1 creates names beginning with 001, 002, and 003 when 3-digit padding is selected.
Number Padding
Controls how many digits appear at the beginning of each filename. For example, 3-digit padding creates names like 001_Photo.jpg, 002_Photo.jpg, and 003_Photo.jpg. Padding helps files sort correctly in folder apps.
Separator
Controls the character placed between the number and the rest of the filename, such as an underscore, hyphen, or space.
Remove Old Name
When Remove Old Name is off, ShuffleSort keeps the original filename after the new number. When it is on, exported files use only the new numbering format instead of including the original filename.
Common Questions
Does ShuffleSort upload my photos?
No. ShuffleSort processes your selected photos locally on your device. Your photos are not uploaded to a server.
Does ShuffleSort change my original photos?
No. Your original photos stay untouched. ShuffleSort creates renamed copies for export.
Why does ShuffleSort export a ZIP file?
A ZIP file keeps the shuffled, renamed photo copies together so you can save, share, AirDrop, or move the collection as one file.
Why do the numbers matter?
Many folder apps sort files alphabetically or numerically. By adding numbers like 001, 002, and 003, ShuffleSort helps photos appear in the shuffled order.
Can ShuffleSort work offline?
Yes. ShuffleSort is designed to work offline for its core photo shuffling, renaming, preview, and export features.
What photo formats are supported?
ShuffleSort is designed for common image formats including JPG, JPEG, PNG, HEIC, and WEBP.
What does “deck” mean?
In this support page, “deck” means the current group of photos you have selected in ShuffleSort. It is like a deck of cards being shuffled.
Troubleshooting
The share sheet did not appear
Try exporting again after selecting fewer photos. If the issue continues, force close ShuffleSort, reopen it, and try again. When contacting support, include your device model, iOS/macOS version, the number of photos selected, and what happened after tapping Download ZIP.
Export takes a long time
Large photo collections or very large image files can take longer to process. Try exporting a smaller group first to confirm everything is working.
Photos are not in the expected order
Make sure the app or device you are viewing them in sorts by filename. ShuffleSort controls the exported filenames, but different apps may use different sorting settings.
ZIP file will not open
Try saving the ZIP to the Files app first, then open it from there. If the problem continues, contact support.
The app looks stuck after selecting many photos
Processing a large number of photos can take time, especially if the original files are large. Wait a moment, or try again with a smaller group of photos.
